Out and About: 6/10/2014

Yesterday me and mom went to check out The Intermark in the city. The mall wasn't that big but classy and of course there were a number of restaurants but the most popular joint there seems to be The Red Lobster Restaurant.

Anyway we reached there and looked for some late afternoon snacks. Saw this café serving cakes and coffee. Juan Valdez Cafe. A cup of mocha latte and a piece of banana loaf cost me RM29 including taxes. That to me was very expensive. And the taste was not up to expectation. Enuf said.

Then we went to Village Grocer to walk a bit, bought a golden melon and a purple lada benggala (shit I forgot the English name).

Parking there on Sundays and publuc holidays is RM5 per entry. We left a while later and went to KLCC for dinner.

Had dinner at Little Penang Café and looks like they have reduced their prices. Used to cost more than RM15 for a bowl or a plate of char koay teow or laksa etc but now it's only RM12.20. Weird.

Geez blogging on the phone isn't really fun but since I woke up and couldn't sleep so I thought I could at least do something 'productive'.

Just Notes

Ahhh!!! Slacked two days already. No can't do. I must be more diligent in writing.

So, what did I want to write about today? Two days ago, made a mental note to write about "Wednesday Movies".

So almost every Wednesday evening, we'd go for movies because Wednesdays' tickets are much cheaper compared to other days. Up to a point mom will automatically asked, "What movie are we watching today?" or "Any movie to watch today?"

Ever since working from home five years ago, I've been living with mom & dad. It's funny when I think of it. After working for 12 years, I quit full time to work from home. Why? Because I cannot tolerate "people stress" anymore. I really cannot. I surrender even though the $$$ was pretty good but I really tak boleh anymore. More so after being promoted to Middle Management, where you get torn in-between, literally speaking. So, I left.

Anyway, I wanted to say that during that 12 years working in the so-called "corporate world", I was on my own most of the time and 12 years later, I'm back with my parents, minus the sister who has sorta settled down in VN.

So, back to the topic, movie watching every Wednesday has become a routine for the 3 of us which I totally enjoy. I guess I can consider myself lucky to be able to spend so much time with them at "my" age.

Argh! I suddenly lost my train of thoughts. Never mind I guess, at least I wrote something today. That's all.

Oh, I was going through all the blogs listed here and found that many have either moved, closed, stopped writing, vanished and whatnot. But I'm amazed that some of the oldest "top bloggers" from those years are still writing constantly. Pui fook pui fook...

Dream of the Deceased

About two weeks ago, I dreamed about two people who had passed on. Now, this is a first for me as I've not experienced this before. I dreamed about my late maternal grandma and grandpa. Grandpa just left us a few months ago on 21/4/2014. Grandma left us in October 2007.

What was my dream about? In my dream, I saw grandma and grandpa. The background was like very foggy (probably looking like heaven, I'd like to think of it that way! Or maybe it's in-between Earth and Heaven like my dad said, who knows?) but I knew where it was. It was at their home. Grandma was staring at me for the longest time and she smiled. She looked very much younger than what I remember her to be. Then, grandpa was somewhere beside there, didn't really get to 'see' him but I knew he was there. I was very surprised to see my grandma because I thought, hey, she's here but she's not here anymore, you know what I mean? Kind of complicated to describe what/how I felt. I was surprised, a bit shocked, excited and mesmerized at the same time. I tried to send a signal to my mom who was somewhere there also (I think) although I didn't really see her but dunno what she was doing, she no hiu me.

Don't know how long was the dream and that's it. End of my dream. I kept thinking about it for a couple of days because as I've said, it's a new experience for me, dreaming about someone who had passed on. Told mom & dad about it and then I decided to tell my cousins too and asked if they had a similar experience. To my surprise, one of my cousin said that she had the same dream a week earlier. Two other cousins have also dreamed about grandpa but not recently. Woah! Talk about coincidences.

A few days later, I decided to pay grandma & grandpa a visit at the columbarium. It was a quick visit as when we reached there, they were about to close for the day. Might visit again in October because grandma already left us for 7 years...

I still kept thinking about my dream for a few days. One 'good' thing from this dream is, I feel happy and relieved because grandpa is now with grandma again, after 7 years. May they rest in peace...

Testing Mobile Blogging

Just testing Blogger's Android application to see how it feels.  Don't think it's fun to type long entries on the phone but maybe if it's just to post a picture or two with some short notes would be okay.

A picture of today's late lunch. Kuay chap...

I'm Back

Yes, for now... Thanks to Zeroimpact's post on Facebook regarding 'blogs'...

Anyway, wow! 4 years just zoomed by in a blink of an eye since my last post in 2010. Many things can happen in a span of 4 years...

Why am I back? Not too sure for now. Maybe because I feel a need to jot down the things that I might forget when I grow old next time. Maybe I need an outlet for all pent-up frustrations (if there's any). Maybe, baby... But I do miss reading blogs. Facebook has been great but...

For now, blogging will be a form of life record and not blogging for the sake of blogging. Let's see where it takes me. In the meantime, let me dust off all the cobwebs hanging everywhere.

I'm back!!!

Check Your Receipt When Shopping At Tesco (Malaysia)

We like to get our groceries from Tesco because it's slightly cheaper (sometimes) and more varieties (Tesco's own brand) compared to other hypermarts like Giant or even Carrefour. But, I'm very unhappy with the way they work (or lack of it?). I bought some sanitary pads at the offer price of RM16.99 for two packs. This is like 3 or 4 bucks cheaper than the 'normal' price. The price was stated at the shelf. When the cashier scanned the packs, it came out as RM17.99. I thought, "Hmmm... my eyes bluffed me, I guess."

As I was walking away and looking through the receipt again, mom asked, "What's the matter?" I told her about it and she asked me to go check the price at the shelf 'cos she said it happened to her and dad before at another Tesco branch. So, off I went to check the price. True enough, it was RM16.99. One of the staff was nearby, so I showed her the receipt and asked her to verify, she said, I was right and asked me to go to the Customer Service Counter.

So, I went to make a complaint at the CS counter. The lady of course went to check it herself and I got my RM1 refund.

The point I want to make is, how could this have happened? Imagine those who didn't check their receipts, how much would have Tesco gained from this "mistake"? Do you think it was a mistake or was it an intentional mistake? I don't like to make blind accusations but the fact that this happened to my family a few times before, what does this tell you? You wanna have sales and special offers during holidays, make sure your system is updated! Or are your operational staff all slackers? OR, was there an intention to c.h.e.a.t.? I'm just asking and wondering. Kinda difficult to give them the benefit of the doubt when it happened more than once... So, please check your receipts when shopping at Tesco and spread the news. You might save a few bucks.

*wonders if Tesco have a Social Media Team*

Day 033 - 2 Mash-Ups in Glee

There were 2 mashups in the Glee series. One by the girls and one by the boys. I think I love the girls' better. They 'mashed up' Halo and Walking On Sunshine:

The boys did It's My Life and Confessions:

Mashup - composition created by blending two or more songs, usually by overlaying the vocal track of one song seamlessly over the music track of another.

Day 029 - Erik Grönwall : 2009 Swedish Idol

Sometimes I like to tune in to Swedish's web radio, RIX FM even though I have no idea what the Ikea they are talking about... I just love the songs they play and a few nights ago, this song was love at first tune for  me!  Of course I had no idea what the song was, so I just googled one line of the song (what i heard at that time lah) and found that it was sung by Erik Grönwall, their 2009 Idol. The name of the song, Higher, and it was the song written specially for the winner. Below is the finale by Erik...

From what I read, Erik auditioned in 2007 but didn't get through. So, he tried again 2 years later, and the rest is history. Anyway, his opponent is Calle Kristiansson:

Day 025 - Parkour Motion Reel

Pak-kwa? No, Parkour. Definition from wikipedia : Parkour (sometimes also abbreviated to PK) or l'art du déplacement (the art of moving) is the physical discipline of training to overcome any obstacle within one's path by adapting one's movements to the environment. It is a non-competitive, physical discipline of French origin in which participants run along a route, attempting to negotiate obstacles in the most efficient way possible, as if moving in an emergency situation. Skills such as jumping and climbing, or the more specific parkour moves are employed. The object of parkour is to get from one place to another using only the human body and the objects in the environment. The obstacles can be anything in one's environment, but parkour is often seen practiced in urban areas because of the many suitable public structures available such as buildings and rails.

Kinda awesome, me thinks!

Day 021 - Don't Stop Believing - Glee :: Journey :: Sam Tsui ::

Last night, the musical series "Glee" premiered on Star World. No idea what's so famous about this series but it certainly has caught up on me because Star World has been playing the theme song to death!! The song "Don't Stop Believing" is really catchy. It was made popular originally by Journey.

Just a small town girl
Living in a lonely world
She took the midnight train going anywhere
Just a city boy
Born and raised in South Detroit
He took the midnight train going anywhere

A singer in a smoky room
A smell of wine and cheap perfume
For a smile they can share the night
It goes on and on and on and on

{Refrain}
Strangers, waiting, up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlight people, living just to find emotion
Hiding somewhere in the night

Working hard to get my fill
Everybody wants a thrill
Paying anything to roll the dice
Just one more time
Some will win, some will lose
Some were born to sing the blues
Oh the movie never ends
It goes on and on and on and on
{Refrain}
Don't stop believing
Hold on to that feeling
Streetlight people

Don't Stop Believing - Journey (featuring the new band member, Arnel Pineda)

And a final version by some MySpace guy, Sam Tsui.. not bad at all! I believe he also did a tribute for MJ not too long ago.

Just found another cover by a youtube sensation, Nick Pitera. And, he was just featured in the Ellen Degeneres Show last week! Wow...

Day 020 - Sei For...

Ya, sei for becos I hv no video to post today... The past few days' posts were scheduled posts, which meant that I wrote it way earlier. But I got 'stuck' after that... how now?

Yesterday was a very sad day. I'm referring to the dragon boat training tragedy in Penang. Then later in the evening, there's the #yorais 'fever' on twitter which became a trending topic. Who started it? One of my friend ;-)

Anyway, I suddenly remembered a funny video sent by winnie not-the-pooh sometime back. Kumar the Drag Queen. Nah, watch lah! This is only the first part. There are 3 parts, I think. Continue at your own pace!
